In this video from TED, Rory Sutherland gives examples of how seemingly small, relatively inexpensive changes can produce BIG results, and argues, as such, for the creation of a new job title in business and government organizations alike – the Chief Detail Officer.
Interesting viewpoint and suggestion to say the least, and I can say in my 2 years here at SAP BusinessObjects, that likewise small investments in software and process, can really produce big results. Not uncommon to see 5X+ first year hard ROI results on investments in things like data quality where even a minute 2% reduction in duplicates in a customer list can result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings.
If you’re evaluating business intelligence solutions, you’ll find that there are 3-4 main vendors in the market (SAP Business Objects, Microsoft, IBM Cognos, Oracle) who are gobbling up emerging technologies to add into their overall stack and that the overall stack can now include segments that were once considered separate (eg ETL tools and performance management). There are also emerging niche vendors who can tell very good stories of specific areas within business intelligence but struggle with overall picture. This 3-minute animated video explains the unique value proposition of the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio compared to the competitive offerings.
In this video, Quentin Alsbury, the President and Co-Founder of Roambi, shows a couple of the new visualizations available for your Business Objects data with the Roambi iPhone and iPad application:
1) Trends View: Dashboard-style report for all of your important measures and KPIs that allows you to keep track of historical trends and differences in performance over points in time.
2) Cardex View: Gives you all of your records in an easy to view virtual filing cabinet and enables you to select up to 4 records for side-by-side comparison.
Also, Quentin shows how the Pie View takes advantage of the increased screen real estate of the iPad to include additional chart detail.
