Published annually, the report covers data quality from an overall company perspective – product, services, and business execution – so the ranking encompasses more than product capabilities. It is a point-in-time view by two Gartner analysts with input from a limited number of customers.
Eventhough 2009 represents the first Magic Quadrant scoring for a combined SAP and Business Objects, SAP BusinessObjects maintained its Leaders quadrant position for the 4th year in a row, based on completeness of vision and ability to execute, a significant accomplishment given the size of the integration.
Here are some highlights from the report:
- “As part of SAP, the vendor’s growth prospects are further expanded via access to the global SAP applications customer base, where data quality challenges are prevalent.”
- “Business Objects provided a good breadth of functional data quality capabilities, including data profiling (via Data Insight XI) and common data-cleansing operations (via Data Quality XI)”. “Consistent with increasing market demand for tightly integrated data integration and data quality functionality, Data Services is seeing increased adoption…”
- “SAP Business Objects’ strength in this market remains very much in applications of customer/party data quality, specifically in matching/linking, deduplification and name and address standardization and validation.”
All in all, the report is a great confirmation of SAP BusinessObjects’ comprehensive data quality technology which is now provided with enterprise-calibre data integration all on a single, unified platform with Data Services.
